A month ago I had a post called New Shoes, in which I stated my incredible need to get a new pair of shoes. Last week I finally bought another pair of shoes to repalce the old, faded comfortable pink converse I had. Yes they are still converse, but they are not old, faded or pink, and they are not comfortable either. I still have to break them in - slowly.
Lots of change in our life doesn't just happen overnight. Just like my new shoes aren't comfortable yet, any changes we make in our lifestyles and habits have to happen over time. We might want to make a change but it takes time to adjust to the differences we are making in our lives. It takes time to develop the new habits so that they do indeed become habits
Just like breaking in a pair of shoes (of for that case breaking anything in), we need to take small steps in order to achieve the ultimate goal. Making a big impact on the world is not something which we wake up one morning and decide to do. If that were the case we would become discouraged very quickly. Rather, if we take small steps at making an impact, starting with our family and friends, moving out to our church community or work enviroment and slowly expanding where we make an impact we would not feel so discouraged and would have the energy to continue changing the world...
